Hi all, I've noticed that some people will type the initials of where they're located into their profiles and most of the time, I can't decide for what the location is (mostly in the US) but elsewhere as well. I'm from Australia and I'm not exactly knowledgable on all the abreviations around the world, sorry! .. so of course it's up to you, but I'm just making the suggestion that if you would like us to know where you're from and not have to get confused and ask you again and again, it would help if you wrote out your location in full. and if you do just wanna abreviate your county or whatever, could ya at least put your country cos it's good to know at least the country you reside if nothing else.
Lol thanks! :)

I think it would be helpful if, for the locations there was a combo box with all countries which the user could select from, then an edit box next to that where he/she could enter their city if they wanted to. That way we wouldn't have all these way out locations like ... the hell of this f*cking earth, as I saw on one user's profile. course they could enter whatever location they wanted in the edit box, but they could only fil in the edit box if they'd selected a location from the combo box .. if that makes sense.

I've noticed that some people are very private and don't want to give any information about themselves. I am a very open person so did not have a problem with giving my location, date of birth, and writing a little about myself in the place where you can do that. But I do wish more people would give a little bit more info on themselves. It is frustrating to talk to someone via quicknotes and then go to check out their profile and find no information.

yeh I agree, i mean if you don't wanna fill out your date of birth well that is of course your perogative, but location and just a couple of sentences about you doesn't take two minutes, and filling in your location doesn't mean the world is going to track you down and murder you while you sleep, grin

Yeah, I agree that more people should fill out their information, or at least some of it so if they wanted to, say, add you to a messenger or chat program, or even just to QuickNote, you will know something about who you're talking to. And yes, it would also be useful and interesting if the country combo box and city edit field were there so we could have an idea of where others are from. We wouldn't have to put a real city but could at least put the country.

personally I don't have my msn details on my profile because I found that people added me who I didn't know at all, and often their msn names didn't have anything to do with their zone names, so i'd get a request to add someone who I had no idea who they were, bit confusing really.

course SB and S in a way it may just kinda help to deal with those trolls etc. (not likely but maybe)

see, here's the thing. We've seen in experience that there are a lot of people who don't like to fill out those fields even if they're required, or they'll most likely lie. So, that's the biggest reason why we decided to make it optional. We'd rather have nothing at all written if it's gona be a lie anyways, and we'd rather have someone register rather then be scared away from the cite by being obligated to fill in a required field that they might not want to fill in. Especially since it isn't too big a deal anyways. As for the combo box thing? Yeah, we might consider that, because we do know and understand that there are a lot of people that aren't living in the U.S who might not know the abreviations of our states. we'll keep you all posted about that.
In the meantime, keep the suggestions coming, and we'll pretend we're actually considering them! Later

I think what ather means is. he'll pretend to look at them while all the rest of us actually pay attention. We do look at what you guys suggested. This is why we have this board here.

I actually think that people who don't fill in their profiles don't do themselves any favours. I just looked at a profile, and because the user has filled in no info what so ever, my initial thought is that he/she does not really want users to get to know him/her, otherwise he/she would have filled in at least something. so I am less likely to talk to users who have no info in their profiles, sure I will talk to them if they're chatting, but I wouldn't make initial contact with a user who has no info on their profile.
